Paint Privacy Policy
Draft dated October 29, 2026; the effective date has not been set.
Paint is a college basketball app and website (paintbasketball.com) for scores, stats, rankings, picks and games. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
Using Paint without an account
You can browse scores and stats without signing up. The app gets a short-lived anonymous access token that carries no personal information. Like any web service, our servers receive your IP address and basic request details with each request. We use them to deliver the service and protect it from abuse (for example, rate limiting). We do not attach them to an account.
What we collect when you create an account
- Account details. Your email address, username and password. Passwords are stored only as a salted hash, never in readable form. If you use Sign in with Apple, we receive an Apple user identifier and, if you choose to share it, your email address (which may be an Apple private relay address).
- Profile. Anything you add to your profile, such as a display name, avatar, the teams and interests you pick during setup, and how you heard about Paint.
- Your activity in Paint. Favorite teams and players, notes, poll ballots and rankings, game and season picks, pick'em pools and groups, Ultimate Team lineups, your card collection and packs, coin balance and history, streaks, achievements, and your results in games such as trivia, the grid and 15-0. We also keep counts of in-app actions (for example, how many profiles you have viewed) that drive streaks, achievements and rewards, and record when you view or tap our own in-app promotions.
- Community feed. Posts, replies, votes and reactions you make, the people you follow, block or mute, reports and appeals you file, and moderation records about your account (such as warnings or posting limits). To post in the feed you must give your birthdate, which we use only to confirm you are 13 or older (and 21 or older for rooms that discuss betting lines).
- Game check-ins (optional). If you check in at a game, the app asks for your location while it is open. The coordinates you send are stored with that check-in so we can confirm you were at the arena. We never collect location in the background. Check-in photos are not currently stored.
- Notifications (optional). If you turn on notifications, we store a push token, an app installation identifier and your device platform, along with your alert settings and the games you follow, so we can send the alerts you choose. On iPhone, if you follow a game as a Live Activity or use a home screen widget, we store the tokens Apple issues for those.
- Referrals. If you redeem a referral code, we record the referral and an app installation identifier to stop the same device from redeeming more than once.
- Creator program and partner inquiries. If you apply to our creator program or send a partner inquiry, we keep what you submit (such as your name, contact email, platform, profile link and audience details). For partner inquiries we also keep the IP address the request came from, to limit spam.
- Emails from us. When we send you a password reset or email verification code, we store that one-time code with your email address. Codes expire after 15 minutes.
What others can see
Your username, avatar and the things you post or enter in shared spaces (feed posts and replies, leaderboards, pools, groups and public profiles) are visible to other Paint users.
Advertising, analytics and purchases
Paint does not currently show third-party ads, use third-party analytics, attribution or crash-reporting services, or ask to track you across other companies' apps and websites. Paint does not currently sell anything: coins are earned in the app and have no cash value. If we add advertising, analytics or in-app purchases, we will update this policy first and ask for any permission the law or your device requires.
How we use your information
- To run your account and the features you use, including picks, games, rewards, leaderboards and the community feed.
- To keep Paint safe: moderating the feed, enforcing our Terms, and preventing fraud, spam and abuse.
- To respond when you contact us.
Who we share it with
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
- We use service providers to run Paint: cloud hosting and database providers, a content delivery network, our website host, and (for notifications) Apple, Google and Expo's push notification services. They process data only to provide those services to us.
- We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety and property of our users or others.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app: open your Profile and tap Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account and the data linked to it, including your profile, activity, picks, collection, coins, check-ins, notification tokens and feed posts. You can also ask us to delete it by emailing support@paintbasketball.com.
A creator program application is kept separately by email address and is not removed by deleting your account; email us and we will delete it. Anonymous totals that contain no personal information (such as how often an answer was given in the grid) are kept.
Children
Paint is not directed to children under 13, and the community feed is closed to anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your choices and rights
You can view and edit most of your information in the app, turn notifications and location off in your device settings, and delete your account at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information. Email us to make a request.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the date above.
